The President of the United States has been kidnapped and his Secret Service traces  details about the person killed on the snow-covered slopes of Utah. Scot Harvath, an ex-Navy SEAL, is the only agent who has survived. He rejects the official narrative that the attack was carried out by Middle Eastern terrorists and launches his own investigation and vengeance campaign. But now, after being falsely accused of murder by a nefarious cabal, Harvath takes his struggle to the Swiss Alps, where he teams up with the stunning Claudia Mueller of the Swiss Federal Attorney’s Office.

Together, they must traverse the subzero temperatures and dizzying heights of Mount Pilatus, where their only chance for survival lies within the den of the world’s most lethal team of professional killers. While on vacation in Utah’s Snow Mountains, the President of the United States is kidnapped. Except for the hero, Scot Harvath, every Secret Service member involved in the protection detail is slain! Several government officials, a rich tycoon, and highly competent Swiss mercenaries are among the kidnappers involved in this diabolical conspiracy.

While every intelligence agency in the United States is chasing false leads, agent Harvath is the only one who can bring the president back thanks to his extraordinary intelligence. Everyone, with the exception of agent Harvath, gets duped by the kidnappers.

When thirty high-level agents are slain and the president is kidnapped while on vacation, Scot Harvath, the lone survivor, is sent in to track down the president’s captors. It’s a plot that, in my opinion, was a daring start to a series. There are two major stories that can be written about in these kind of books: the kidnapping of a political leader or a terrorist bombing. Thor’s decision to go right into the kidnapping of a political leader was bold and, in my opinion, effective.

The Lions of Lucerne by Brad Thor

Corrupt politics emanating from the vice president and his colleagues are entangled beneath the panic that results from this. It’s a thriller that offers not only thrilling action sequences and close calls with death, but also a fascinating glimpse into an alternative American democracy that contains flawed people in high-ranking positions seeking power and money.

Truths I Never Told You by Kelly Rimmer is very interesting and amazing novel.

Right off the gate, I have to state that Scot Harvath is the best action hero I’ve ever read in any action novel. If you’ve read the others, you’ll notice that this doesn’t really raise the standard that high, but Harvath has a sense of humor that I enjoy. Too frequently in these types of books, the author feels compelled to make the main character seem “cool,” so they’re devoid of personality, or they’re so intent on writing kickass action scenes that they forget to give their characters substance and depth. Thor does a fantastic job of reminding us that even individuals with important and potentially life-threatening tasks can crack a joke and see the lighter side of things.

Aside from that, the majority of the other characters are very generic. The villains are nasty, and some of the folks involved in the questionable decisions being made at home in America give the plot some depth and realism, but they’re largely there to go through the motions.

Before I Let You Go by Kelly Rimmer can be read for enjoyment.
